New Law Regarding High Occupancy Vehicle Lanes
Prior to 2011, High-Occupancy Vehicle Lane law permitted fuel-efficient, low emission vehicles to display stickers permitting them to operate in High Occupancy Vehicle lanes with a single occupant. The HOV law was due to expire on December 31, 2010. A new law effective January 1, 2011 extends the law permitting hybrid vehicles with yellow stickers to use HOV lanes until 2011. Drivers operating fully electric and compressed natural gas vehicles with white stickers may drive in the HOV lanes until 2015. Drivers operating plug in hybrid vehicles may use HOV lanes until 2015.
