Arrests and the Santa Cruz County Jail
The Santa Cruz County Main Jail is located at 259 Water Street in the city of Santa Cruz. The Mail Jail is Santa Cruz County's only detention facility providing maximum security units. The State of California has rated the Main Jail as a Class II detention facility. The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office Detention Bureau oversees the Main Jail. Santa Cruz County's only booking facility is located at the Main Jail. All law enforcement officers throughout Santa Cruz County must transport arrestees for
misdemeanors such as DUIs and Domestic Violence
and felonies such as DUI with Injury and Vehicular Manslaughter to the Main Jail. The Main Jail houses persons in various detention situations including those persons awaiting trial who are ineligible for or cannot post bail, those persons awaiting sentencing, those persons convicted of crimes with sentences of no longer than one year, those persons already convicted of very serious offenses and whose cases are on appeal, those persons awaiting transportation back to state prison due to a parole violation and those persons requiring medical care that cannot be provided by other county detention facilities.
