What To Expect At Booking at the Santa Cruz County Main Jail
Santa Cruz County's only booking facility for misdemeanors such as DUIs or Domestic
Violence or felonies such as Vehicular Manslaughter or Sexual Crimes is located at the Main Jail in Santa Cruz. All law enforcement officers must transport persons arrested for misdemeanors or felonies to the Main Jail for booking. Squad cars and persons arrested are monitored via video surveillance as they enter the vehicle sally port which is an enclosed area secured by locked doors at each end. A police officer leads a person arrested through a pedestrian sally port and into the booking area. Officers of the same gender as the person arrested pats down the arrested person and completes a health intake questionnaire. An audio and video recording is made of the booking. After walking through a metal detector a person is put into a group holding cell. Intoxicated persons are put into the jail drunk tank for a minimum of five hours. If intoxication prevents a person from standing or communicating, the person is taken to a local medical emergency room for detox.
