Grand Jury Proceedings
Grand jury proceedings are generally secret criminal proceedings. Persons who may be permitted to be present during a grand jury criminal hearing for crimes such asMurder, Manslaughter, Sex Crimes and Gang Crimes, include members of the criminal grand jury, the district attorney and/or assistant district attorneys, witnesses called by the prosecution, a court reporter, and interpreter if required for a witness. Unless a person is testifying as a witness, the accused person or target may not be present during the grand jury proceedings nor may his or her attorney. The prosecutor may commence a felony criminal action by grand jury indictment in superior court.
