Juvenile Crimes - Advisement of Rights
A judge must advise an unrepresented child, parent or guardian of the right to representation; the right to have counsel appointed, subject to a claim of reimbursement. A judge must also advise the child, parent and guardian of the right to assert the privilege against self-incrimination, the right to confront and cross examine witnesses and preparers of reports, the right to subpoena witnesses and the right to present evidence. The child, parent or guardian and their attorneys have the right to receive probation officer reports and to inspect the documents used in preparing the reports.
