Maintaining Financial Responsibility
Drivers and every owner of a motor vehicle must maintain financial responsibility at all times. Whenever you drive, you must carry written evidence of financial responsibility. There are four types of financial responsibility: Liability insurance policy. $35,000 surety bond. DMV issued self insurance certificate or DMV acknowledgement of a $35,000 cash deposit. Failure to provide the DMV with a traffic accident report which is called a SR 1 and proof of insurance within 10 days of any collision with damages over $750, injury or death will result in your driver license being suspended. If you arrested or charged with a traffic related misdemeanor or felony, contact Christine McGuire, the Santa Cruz Criminal Defense Attorney; the Santa Clara County Criminal Defense Attorney.
