Secure Communities
The new Immigration and Customs Enforcement Program known as Secure Communities has gone into effect in 38 out of California's 58 counties. Secure Communities checks jail inmate's fingerprints against Department of Homeland Security immigration records and FBI criminal records. Jail staff press the inmate's fingertips to a machine and the prints are sent to ICE also known as Immigration and Customs Enforcement immediately. ICE holds are triggered when an inmate has prior immigration issues and has been arrested for a serious crime such as a felony or if the person has a serious criminal history in addition to being an illegal immigrant. A match in the ICE system is based on the totality of a person's criminal and immigration history. If you are arrested or charged with a crime, contact
