DMV and Temporary Licenses
Thousands of California drivers are unable to renew their drivers licenses prior to the expiration of their licenses because of glitches with the DMV's new high-tech format. The Department of Motor Vehicles announced that they will send out temporary licenses to drivers which would be valid for 90 days. Temporary licenses were previously valid for 60 days and were issued in DMV field offices. Any person renewing a license online by mail or in person will now receive a temporary license which is good for three months. New DMV cards when they arrive will come equipped with features to protect the card against fraud, tampering and counterfeiting. Meanwhile temporary cards will be recognized by police and the California Highway patrol, Transportation Security Adminstration and car rental agencies. If you are arrested for a misdemeanor or
