Obligations of Subpoenaed Witness

A witness served with a subpoena must comply on pain of contempt of court.  A witness is not served with a subpoena that is mailed to the witness unless the witness acknowledges receipt of the subpoena by telephone, mail or in person.  On pain of being found in contempt of court a witness called to testify at a criminal trial must answer all questions unless a question is objected to and the objection is sustained by the court or a valid claim of privilege is asserted by the witness and upheld by the court.
