Juvenile Crimes, Disposition Hearing, DJJ
DJJ is the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Division of Juvenile Justice formerly known as the California Youth Authority. When a minor is eligible for a DJJ commitment, if the judge concludes it is in the best interest of the minor that the judge have access to the diagnosis and observations of the DJJ diagnosis and treatment center, the judge may continue the disposition hearing for up to ninety days. During that period of time the judge may place the minor at the DJJ diagnosis and observations center. When the minor is returned, he or she must be brought to juvenile court within two court days. The disposition hearing must be held within 10 court days from the date the minor is returned.
