AB 109
AB 109 provides for new sentencing and parole guidelines to divert low-level, nonviolent inmates to counties including parole violators who typically spend a few months in state prison and offenders who receive prison sentences of less than three years for a variety of crimes such as drug dealing. AB 109 follows a United States Supreme Court ruling forcing state prison officials to slash as many as 34,000 inmates from prisons within the next two years to remedy long-standing prison over-crowding.
