The Santa Clara County Main Jail Complex is one of four detention facilities operated by the Santa Clara County Department of Corrections. The Complex houses persons arrested for misdemeanors and
felonies. The Santa Clara County Main Jail Complex is quite large. The complex is the fifth largest correctional system in the State of California and is among twenty of the largest correctional systems in the United States. The Santa Clara County Main Jail Complex is divided into the Main Jail North and the Main Jail South. Between the two, they book approximately 60,000 bookings of inmates annually. The Santa Clara County Main Jail South houses more than 600 inmates. The Main Jail North has the capacity to house almost 1,000 inmates.
