Miranda warnings and Minors

Police officers are required to Mirandize an adult or juvenile whenever that person is subject to custodial interrogation. A custodial interrogation is one in which the person is under arrest and is asked a question that are designed to illicit an incriminating response.

Under California law, police officers are required to give the Miranda warnings whenever they take a minor into custody - even if they don't intend to question that minor.
